  What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Jiu-jitsu is said to have originated in India thousands of years ago. It is there where they created a non-violent fighting style giving birth to Jiu-jitsu. From India, these techniques traveled to China, then to Japan.
In Japan it grew and was developed. Its principles involved self-defense with minimal force which allowed the weakest individuals to defend themselves against physically stronger adversaries.
Japanese Jiu-jitsu was introduced in Brazil in 1917 by world champion Eisei Mitsuyo Maeda who was also known as Count Koma. In Sao Palo city, Brazil, Maeda taught Carlos Gracie who later taught his younger brothers. The most renowned one being Helio.
Being of smaller stature, Helio adapted the Jiu-jitsu techniques making it easier for weaker people to fight against stronger people, creating the Gracie Jiu-jitsu style and being considered the father of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu was introduced to the United States in the 1970’s, but was not made popular until 1993. In a contest called the UFC, Royce Gracie( the son of Helio)defeated opponents from other martial arts using his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. That’s why I started to practice Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I saw how it was effective in real life fighting. It still proves to be one of the strongest and most effective forms of martial arts. To this day Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is still growing in popularity.

MMA What is Mixed Martial Arts?
MMA (mixed martial arts) which is also known as Vale Tudo originated in Brazil. Vale Tudo is Portuguese and is translated as "no rules". Competitions have been held for may decades in Brazil. It labels the competition with very few rules and limits.
MMA got the worlds attention when an event called UFC took place in the United States in 1993. Unlike Brazil though, rules were created to make the fight fair and legal.
Since the UFC, MMA has spread rapidly across the globe, making it one of the most popular events to watch.
BJJW Women and BJJ.
Women more and more are starting to practice martial arts. Not only is it a good workout, but it also boasts self-confidence. Also, learning martial arts teaches you good self-defense. Woman need to learn how to protect themselves. Out of all the martial arts out there, I really recommend Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. The reason being, it teaches you how to defend yourself on the ground. In most cases women are usually taken to ground by their attacker. If you have some knowledge about ground defense you could really save your life. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu teaches you more about technique, rather than force.
